Backstage Update - More On Alberto Del Rio's New WWE Contract & How Much He's Being Paid, More

Source: The Wrestling Observer Newsletter

UPDATE: PWI has new details on Alberto Del Rio’s WWE contract. The site reports that Del Rio’s contract with the company is not at the $1.45 million downside that was previously reported and may be as low as a third of that number, or around $500,000.

Big Backstage Update - Alberto Del Rio’s WWE Contract - How Much He's Being Paid, Schedule, More

There’s still no word on whether he will appear at the November 15th AAA date at Gimnasio Josue Neri Santos de Ciudad Juarez, or if he’ll even drop the title to someone else at some point.

ORIGINAL:
Alberto Del Rio’s new deal with WWE has a $1.45 million downside with a reduced schedule compared to what he was working. WWE felt like they needed a Hispanic star, which justified the big-money contract. AAA was unable to match WWE’s offer; while they were disappointed it appears there is no hard feelings over the jump

Del Rio wanted to keep a good relationship with AAA, but also wanted to keep his return a secret. He told AAA officials about his decision the night before or day of Hell in a Cell and suggested that he would finish up his scheduled dates. He has reportedly asked WWE to allow him to finish his scheduled dates.

AAA had plans to have a hair vs. hair match between Del Rio and Jeff Jarrett on December 5th, but they’re redoing plans for the show. They are under the impression that Del Rio will work their November 2nd show instead of Raw, which would presumably be where he loses the AAA Mega Championship. If he does work the day, it is because he insisted to be able to do so.

At this point, it’s uncertain if he will be able to complete all of his remaining AAA scheduled dates.

Bubba Ray Dudley Discusses His "Bully Ray" Character In WWE, The New Day, James Storm/NXT, More

In an interview with Live Audio Wrestling, Bubba Ray Dudley spoke about working with the New Day, James Storm’s NXT debut and more. Here are highlights:

On his Bully Ray character in WWE: “If WWE came to me and they told me that is something that they wanted to try out I would be more than happy to go down that road since I know I’ve done it in the past & I know I’ve done it in the past well. So I definitely think it could work.”

On The New Day being entertaining heels:
“I think when I go out there I go out there with a totally different mentality. My mentality is a little bit more old school and I think my mentality doesn’t exactly fit perfectly into what the WWE would want out of a ‘villain’ or ‘good guy’. What they want is entertainment and the New Day are entertaining and that’s the very first thing you need to be in the WWE. So if you’re entertaining and the people hate you that’s fine. And if you’re entertaining and the people love you that’s fine – as long as you’re entertaining.”

On James Storm’s NXT debut:
“Storm is a really great in-ring wrestler. He is really accomplished on the microphone. He is one of the guys that I worked with from Day One when I was in TNA. He was part of a very successful tag team. He did well on his own. He has a lot of years of knowledge & I think he can only help down there in NXT.”

On if Team 3D Academy could have a partnership with WWE
“It’s definitely something that me and D-Von have thought about in the past. We’re very proud of our school, the Team 3-D Academy. Our school is a traditional school where if someone off the street wants to become a professional wrestler they come to us and we train them and hopefully they can move on to bigger things. Only 20 minutes away is the WWE Performance Center. So if they were ever interested in possibly getting together and having something like a minor league feeder system we would definitely be interested in talking to them about something like that.”

Ryback Claims That He Told Vince McMahon That He Can Replace John Cena As WWE's Top Star

During his appearance on the Steve Austin Show, Ryback claimed that he told Vince McMahon to his face that he can replace John Cena as the company's next big star.

"I told Vince this. I am here for the long haul. Like, I want to be my absolute best and my best is going to end up pretty damn good, at the end of this, but the key to that is staying healthy and longevity here. People are going to take themselves out, people get injured, and opportunities open up. And I've said from day one, I've told Vince this to his face, I am the guy that can replace John Cena, and I'm not John Cena, I'm Ryback. But I'm the guy that can do that and I can sell [tickets], but I need to be healthy and I need to be here everyday for that to happen."

Kevin Nash Believes He Has One More WWE Run In Him

WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash recently spoke with Sports Illustrated's Extra Mustard site to discuss The Undertaker and if he has one more run in him. Here are the highlights.

On one more WWE run:

"I have one more run. I'm started to get things fixed. I'm getting my shoulder fixed, I'm getting my neck fixed. I miss it, so never say never."

Tommy Dreamer Says He Was Shocked To See Alberto Del Rio Return To WWE, Dudley Boyz/WWE

-- In an interview with Wrestledelphia to promote House of Hardcore 10 on November 13, Tommy Dreamer said that he was shocked to learn that Alberto Del Rio returned to the WWE. Here are highlights:

Also read: Jim Ross Blogs - Says He's Not Sorry To See Tough Enough End, Reacts To The Dudley's Return, More

On Del Rio’s WWE return: “Shocked. Especially considering that he’s the AAA Mega Champion. It’s funny, all of the surprises on my shows end up going back to WWE. The Dudleys, Alberto, maybe Rey Mysterio will be next. It’s a crazy, crazy time in pro wrestling right now. But you always have to remember to never say never. That’s why I’ve always loved the Royal Rumble. It’s not just about who is going to WrestleMania, it’s about okay, who is coming out next? In the 70’s and 80’s, it was always cool seeing somebody from a different territory come out and you’re like, whoa, he doesn’t belong here! You just never knew what could happen.”

On The Dudley Boyz returning to WWE: “I’m happy for them. It sucks for me because Bubba is my closest friend and I can’t have him on the shows, but WWE definitely needed them. You know, for all the shows he worked for me, Bubba never took a paycheck. I always offered, but he said no. He was just happy to be having fun again.”

Rumors have been circulating online that Lana might be taking more time off WWE soon to film another movie. This is untrue, and the rumor got started when an article, accompanied by a video, was posted by The Daily Mail out of The UK, suggesting Lana would be filming a new WWE Studios movie. The video was actually footage from the WWE Studios movie “Interrogation,” which Lana completed shooting months ago.

EVOLVE Roster “Buzzing” Over WWE Partnership?

EVOLVE Roster “Buzzing” Over WWE Partnership? AJ Styles Talks Possibly Joining WWE NXT: Indy Talents Work NXT Taping: WWE wants more Indy Talents: Tommaso Ciampa Signs with WWE?
Source: PWInsider/ WrestleZone

It is being said that the morale backstage right now in EVOLVE is said to be very high. Since Sami Zayn’s appearance, attendance being up and iPPV buys being up the roster is said to be “buzzing” about hat the new partnership between WWE and EVOLVE/WWN Live could mean. According to PWInsider.com, the deal was put together very quickly, and as of two weeks ago it wasn’t even on the table. Zayn reportedly had a great time at the events and spent a considerable amount of time signing autographs and meeting with fans.

On the The Taz Show: Bodyslams & Beyond, New Japan and Ring of Honor star AJ Styles had the following to say regarding a possible debut in WWE NXT:
“At this point in my career, I’m going to go do what’s best for my family, and I want to do what is best to provide for them. So, the business that we are in, the business could be better somewhere else, then that’s where I’m going to go, that’s what I’m going to do. So like I said, it’s a business plan. Wherever the plan takes me, that’s where I’ll go.”

Indy wrestlers Corey Hollis and John Skyler worked last night’s WWE NXT TV tapings at Full Sail University. The two teamed up to face The Mechanics in a match which will air on the November 18th edition of NXT.

The reported advice WWE’s Senior Director of Talent Development Canyon Ceman is giving wrestlers looking for a second tryout is to become an indy star first. Ceman reportedly said wrestlers have a lower chance of getting in with a second tryout, but becoming a star on their own and having fan fare could help them. WWE’s views about selecting wrestlers have changed in recent times; usually they like to find bigger athletes they can train from scratch, but are now bringing in more independent talent with experience based on recent signings.

Tommaso Ciampa, who has been working the last few set of NXT TV tapings, might have officially signed with WWE as he worked a PROGRESS Wrestling show in London and indicated that he’s signed.
Ciampa will return to PROGRESS on November 29th to face Marty Scurll, and the match storyline is that the bout is happening thanks to NXT General Manager William Regal. But F4WOnline.com is reporting that Ciampa has yet to sign a contract with WWE.

215 Days And Counting‬,,

The Architect, The Man, The Undisputed Future of WWE continues his reign of dominance, and it will not end for a long while.

Seth FREAKIN Rollins celebrates his 215th day as WWE World Heavyweight Champion, and he will celebrate many more days as champion.

WWE Giving Up On Top Superstar?

It seems like WWE has grown weary of one of their top stars on the main roster. Not that fans can really blame WWE for this, especially since the push was horribly doomed from the word go. With that being said, what will the future now hold for former Shield member, Seth Rollins?

While some fans may believe his is well on his way to defeating John Cena at Summerslam later this month, it seems WWE has other plans for the former architect of The Shield. This may be due to him accidently injuring Cena during their match two weeks ago on Raw, but a more likely option seems to be that WWE is starting to realize that Seth Rollins isn’t really best for business.

That’s not to say he didn’t have a few memorable moments during his nearly four month reign as champion, but those moments were heavily outweighed by instances of inconsistent match finishes and cheap heel tactics. The worst of these instances came when he lost to Ambrose, but was rewarded the win after Ambrose was disqualified.

Looking at Rollins most recent matches, he was forced to submit in his match with John, barely defeated Neville during their opening match on Raw a week ago and finally got disqualified after Sheamus attacked Randy Orton during their main event match on Raw. This isn’t how you book a champion, this is how you book someone that you don’t have very much faith in.

It should be noted that WWE could have been just trying to strengthen the prestige of The United States Championship by giving Cena the win over Rollins, but I believe that the nose injury and time on shelf for Cena has really given Rollins a lot of backstage heat with WWE officials. Whether that heat culminates with Rollins losing at Summerslam remains to seen.

If WWE was angry at Rollins, which I fully believe they are for putting their top star on the shelf for a few weeks, there is no better time to ruin Rollin’s career then at Summerslam in his match against John Cena. Countless superstars have been virtually buried by Super Cena before and it looks like WWE might make Rollins his next victim.

Even if WWE isn’t angry with Rollins over the Cena injury, WWE still knows that the cocky heel angle can’t work much longer and that they need change tracks before the fans start to severly sour on Seth Rollins as well. Another option to do that is by allowing Sheamus to cash in his contract on Rollins at Summerslam.

To be fair, the option was teased last week on Raw when Sheamus attacked Orton and tried to cash in on a vulnerable Seth Rollins, but it also really seems unlikely that The WWE thinks that Sheamus is a title contender right now. Not that he won’t be in the future, but right now, his fan reaction has been pretty timid both ways.

Only time will tell what WWE’s true plan is for the future of Seth Rollins. With that being, his bad booking and tiring antics are definitely strikes against him when considering if he should continue to be The Authorities champion.

Possible Plans for Undertaker at Survivor Series

As seen at the end of WWE Hell in a Cell last night, The Undertaker was taken out by all four members of The Wyatt Family, including the returning Luke Harper. The Wyatts beat Undertaker down, and then “abducted” him by taking him out of the arena.

WWE is teasing The Undertaker will be appearing at Survivor Series this year, as they ran multiple video packages last night promoting “25 years of The Undertaker” at the PPV next month, so it would appear likely The Dead Man will be facing The Wyatts in some capacity.

Whether or not ‘Taker faces one member of The Wyatts in a singles match or teams up with others to take on the entire family in a traditional Survivor Series elimination match is not yet known.

It looks as if The Ultimate Warrior is filling up Hulk Hogan's former hole in WWE.

If we can take it back about three years, Hogan was regarded as the man who had the highest standard level in WWE. Warrior, at that time was hardly mentioned by the company.

Now, with Warrior inducted to the Hall of Fame and then immediately passing away after, as well as Hogan being stricken from the record books, Warrior has now been regarded as high in ranking as Hogan was before his firing.

Just goes to show that anything can change drastically in the WWE, the man who was regarded as the greatest of all time can be unsung, and vice versa.

Shelton Benjamin Talks WWE Career

Former WWE star and Intercontinental Champion Shelton Benjamin recently appeared on an episode of “Talk is Jericho”. Y2J has apparently been getting numerous requests for Benjamin on the show and he’s been asking for him for awhile. You can listen to the full podcast episode between Benjamin and Jericho right here.

Below is a highlight of Shelton Benjamin’s thoughts on his WWE career and he had the following to say:

“I can’t complain, from a financial standpoint. I wasn’t always in the position that I wanted to be in, but I always had a position. I was there for just shy of 10 years. I can’t be bitter; I had a good career. I won many titles, I had a lot of great matches, made a lot of great friends. Overall I’m very happy with what I accomplished while in the WWE. I think more could have been done, of course, but for the most part I’m pretty [happy].”

Shelton Benjamin is constantly brought up by many wrestling fans as one of the most underrated in recent WWE history. During his career, Benjamin was involved with numerous storylines and Money in the Bank matches but he was also a three-time Intercontinental Champion, a two-time Tag Team Champion with Charlie Haas and a United States Champion. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter voted him the Most Underrate Wrestler from 2005 to 2007.

NXT General Manager William Regal revealed in an interview with WWE,,

- NXT General Manager William Regal revealed in an interview with WWE that he under went another neck surgery back on Wednesday in Pittsburgh. Here's what he had to say regarding the operation:

“I had a neck surgery last year and everything was very, very good, and I went in for a follow-up exam six weeks ago. Luckily, we did the exam, because they found there was more damage in the back of the neck that needed to be taken care of as soon as possible. The last surgery I had, they went in through the front of my neck; this one’s in the back, so there’s a lot more work involved and a lot of healing in the muscle in the back of the neck.

“It was my C3, C4, C5 and C6 [vertebrae]. I believe the operation is called a laminectomy, where they go in and completely clean out the calcium deposits from the back. Now that I’ve got this done, it’s just a matter of healing up and I’ll be good to go. Dr. Maroon, who is head of the WWE Wellness Program, performed the operation. He said I’ll be good to go for another 50,000 miles, or 50 years. Hopefully, that will cover me for the rest of my time on this Earth, anyway.”

How would you book Triple H for WrestleMania 32?

What would my plans be for Triple H?

His well awaited feud with Seth Rollins is desired more than The Rock. So why would Rock vs Triple H come before Rollins for WrestleMania 32? I believe he should betray Rollins during his title match at the Royal Rumble (which I predict to be the night he loses the championship) and then build on a massive grudge match, even book it as a Street Fight at WrestleMania between the two. But I don't want to see Rock vs Triple H, because I believe Rock should go one on one with Brock Lesnar, if he were to wrestle again (referring to The Rock).

How would you book Triple H for WrestleMania 32?

Return to WWE (2014–present)

On December 23, 2013 episode of Raw, a vignette aired announcing the return of Batista on January 20, 2014 episode ofRaw. It was later announced that Batista would be participating in the 2014 Royal Rumble match. Batista returned as aface to confront WWE World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton on the January 20 Raw, and vowed to win the Royal Rumble match and become champion at WrestleMania XXX. Later that night, Batista confronted Alberto Del Rio, who had been trash talking him for several weeks, and eventually attacked him with a Batista Bomb.Six days later at the Royal Rumble, Batista entered the Rumble match at number 28 and last eliminated Roman Reigns to win the match, becoming the fifth wrestler to win multiple Rumble matches, and the first, and so far only multi-time Royal Rumble winner to win from the same entrant number (28). The live crowd reacted negatively towards Batista's win, as Daniel Bryan did not take part in the match. Despite a positive reaction originally, the crowd began to boo Batista after Reigns was eliminated. After the show went off the air, Batista mocked Bryan and gestured his middle finger at the crowd. According to Batista, he thought a return as face was a bad idea because of the fans being so invested in Daniel Bryan's 'Yes Movement'. On the February 3 Raw, Batista was confronted and was ultimately assaulted by Del Rio before chasing him off.Batista retaliated the following week, powerbombing Del Rio through the announce table. At the Elimination Chamber event and on the following Raw, Batista was heavily booed by the fans during matches against Del Rio. Batista won the match at Elimination Chamber, but continued to suffer a torrid fan reaction with 'Boo-tista' chants. Batista responded to the audience on the February 28 SmackDown, saying he didn't come back to be liked, mocking other superstars by stating they weren't "real men" and promising to be the next WWE World Heavyweight Champion, thus turning heel again in the process for the first time since 2009. After Orton retained his title at the Elimination Chamber, the scheduled WrestleMania XXX main event was Batista vs. Orton, however Bryan was added to the match after defeating Triple H in the opening contest of the show. Bryan would ultimately win the triple threat match at WrestleMania, forcing Batista to tap out and winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in the process.

The next night on Raw, Batista and Orton teamed together to face The Usos for the WWE Tag Team Championship, but the match ended in a no contest due to both teams being counted out.Later that night, Batista and Orton, along with Kane, attacked Bryan before he was set to defend his title against Triple H. Before Triple H could defeat Bryan, The Shield interrupted by spearing Triple H and taking out Batista, Orton and Kane, causing Bryan to retain his title via disqualification. On the April 14 edition of Raw, Batista, Triple H and Randy Orton came down to the ring to attack The Shield after their 11-on-3 handicap match, using the name and the theme of Evolution. At both Extreme Rules and Payback, Evolution lost to The Shield. On June 2 edition of Raw, Batista quit WWE after Triple H denied him a shot at the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, leaving the WWE once again. According to a report before this quitting, Batista was to leave the WWE after this episode of Raw due to creative differences. However, after the episode, he made one last appearance at an NXT event on June 12 as a face and receiving a positive reaction from the crowd, cutting a promo with Bo Dallas before hitting him with a spinebuster.

In April 2015, Batista said he would be interested in returning to the WWE, but only at untelevised events.
